We are in the heart of the galactic core season. Verliga Dragonlake, at 2050m, is one of the darkest and most beautiful mountain destinations in Greece. During this overnight workshop, participants will enjoy the night sky, share experiences, and become familiar with advanced landscape astrophotography techniques.
.important notes
Start: 18/7/26 12:00pm at Megalo Peristeri village (approx. 450 km from Athens). Avoid off-road GPS routes. End: 19/7/26 13:00pm at Megalo Peristeri where we'll return It’s important to mention that the schedule and time frames are very fluid and may change depending on the weather conditions. The mountains are always tricky and the weather can change very fast. Even with a perfect prediction some clouds may appear. We’ll be accompanied by a certified mountain guide. Having a travel insurance that covers you for trip and flight cancellation is always the best option. Better safe than sorry! Below, you can see the backbone of the itinerary.
Itinerary
18/7 Meet at Megalo Peristeri village - Hike to Verliga Lake
We'll meet at Megalo Peristeri. After preparing our stuff, along with our mountain guide, we'll join the bus which will cover most of the road trip and save us from carrying all these stuff. However, the bus can't reach the plateau as there are barriers put to preserve the environment. From there we need 45minutes of walking till the plateau. Have in mind not to bring too many photo stuff with you in order to avoid overloading your backpack.
We will camp at the plateau. Participants must bring a 3-season tent and a warm sleeping bag. Each participant is responsible for their own food and water, with additional supplies available in the village. A mountain guide will be present for assistance.
As noted above our start is at 9am to be up in the plateau by midday so we set our tent, relax and have some lunch. At 19:00 we'll meet for our theoretical lesson. We'll explain anything needed to capture stunning images. From gear and setting to using trackers and planning your shots based on the weather conditions.
Sunset happens around 21:00 which is perfect for smooth light on the peaks. During nighttime it's good to avoid using headlights not to mess with other shots. Please be respectful.
11/7 Hike down & say goodbye
We wake up early at 8am to have breakfast, prepare our stuff and leave the plateau by 10am to meet the bus at the randesvous point and avoid most of the sunlight during decent.

The Verliga Alpine Plateau is one of the most impressive high-mountain landscapes in Greece, a favourite destination for hikers, nature lovers, and photographers. Surrounded by rugged peaks and open alpine terrain, it offers an incredible sense of scale and isolation — ideal conditions for landscape and night photography.
During the workshop, participants will explore how to photograph in alpine environments, learn to plan and capture sunset and twilight compositions, and practice night-sky photography away from light pollution. With real mountain conditions and ever-changing weather, the Verliga plateau becomes the perfect natural classroom for improving technique, creativity, and confidence in outdoor photography.
